Here is a little quick fix that might speed things up just a bit: Try saving some of your files on an external storage device like a cd, dvd, USB flash drive, floppy or zip. Next after saving those files on someting beside your hard drive trash those files off your computer. Then clean up your Desktop, try moving any other files that you really don't need over into your C-drive or corresponding drive. Cluttering your desktop by storing all kinds of picture files and unneeded shortcuts also drastically slows down our computers.

Solution:
A big NO NO: It's not recommended to edit registry before upgrading a PC or even making a slow PC faster as some registry cleaners can scrape out old registry entries of which some may be necessary to keep some programs running! And avoid websites trying to sell you something unnecessary.
You could also:
Remove all the big files from your desktop. If your hard disk is full get some external usb hard disk and move all your movies and pictures there. Then update you antivirus and antispyware and run a full scan. After that a defragmentation is a good idea. If the problems still persist then you should use a decent registry cleaner. If you are not sure which one to use maybe you could do what I did. Visit the http://thebestofregistrycleaners.com and get a free registry scan.

- Run security scan to eliminate virus, spyware and trojan on your slow computer. Make sure your computer is free from virus. Update your anti-virus program regularly and let it protect your computer in real time.
- Terminate unneeded programs on startup. If you download and install programs often, you must have a lot of programs which will be launched automatically when you start the computer. These programs would take you much time to enter the system completely. To disable the startup programs, you can click "Start"--Run--Type in msconfig--Under the "startup" tab, you can choose the unwanted startup programs. This can make your computer startup run faster than before.
- Detect and fix Windows registry errors. This is a very important and necessary method you should take to make your computer run faster. Do you realize that how important registry is in the PC system? Even a corrupted registry would bring aberration to your computer such as freeze, blue screen errors, crash and so on. Thus, you need to clean up registry errors immediately. I recommend you run a registry scan once a month to keep your system away from registry errors.
